AEROSPACE
Windshields, canopies and technical transparencies for aircraft and light aviation
LIRAS Optical manufactures polycarbonate and PMMA windshields, canopies, windows and transparent panels for ultralight aircraft, Very Light Aircraft (VLA), helicopters, autogyros and special aviation applications. Each component is developed from an OEM drawing, sample or technical specification.
High optical quality, distortion-free visibility, low weight and dimensional stability are essential requirements for aircraft transparencies. LIRAS Optical integrates these features into monolithic or laminated components - with hard coating, anti-fog treatment or micro-wire heating systems - controlled in-house at every stage of the production process.
COMPONENTS
Windshields, canopies and windows for aircraft and special aviation applications
Aircraft transparencies are more than closure panels: they determine pilot visibility, provide aerodynamic protection for the cockpit and ensure reliable component performance under flight conditions. Optical distortion, thickness variations and surface imperfections are detected and controlled before every delivery.
LIRAS Optical manufactures monolithic or laminated windshields, side windows and canopies, developed according to the aircraft geometry, operating conditions and project specifications. Development from drawings, samples or reverse engineering ensures a precise dimensional fit to the aircraft.
CANOPIES & WIND DEFLECTORS
Custom aircraft canopies, cockpit screens and wind deflectors developed from drawings or samples
Laminated Transparent Components
Autoclave-laminated multilayer structures for enhanced mechanical strength
CUSTOM-DESIGNED COMPONENTS
Developed from a drawing, sample or technical specification, or through reverse engineering
TECHNOLOGIES
Polycarbonate and PMMA for transparent aircraft components
Material selection is critical in the development of aircraft transparencies, where weight, strength and optical quality must be assessed carefully.
The choice between polycarbonate and PMMA depends on the component geometry, degree of curvature, thickness, required light transmittance and operating conditions at altitude.
Polycarbonate is preferred for double-curved components and applications requiring impact resistance. PMMA provides superior optical clarity and a high-quality surface finish. Both offer high UV protection, long-term color stability and optical quality suitable for aviation use. They can also be hard-coated to improve abrasion resistance and treated with an anti-fog coating to maintain visibility in high humidity or during rapid temperature changes.
CNC MACHINING & LASER CUTTING
Precision machining to achieve the required dimensions and geometries
HARD COATING
Specialist resins applied in a clean room under controlled temperature and humidity
ANTI-FOG TREATMENT
Functional anti-fog coating applied to the inner surface of the component
