MARINE
PMMA and polycarbonate windshields, windows and transparent components for marine applications
In the marine sector, polycarbonate and PMMA are the materials of choice for transparent components that must accommodate complex geometries, withstand exposure to weather and integrate seamlessly with the vessel's design.
From curved helm console screens to windshields for performance boats, tenders and yachts, each application requires precision manufacturing, high-quality surfaces and shapes aligned with the vessel's design.
LIRAS Optical manufactures PMMA/acrylic and polycarbonate components for new builds, direct replacements and refit projects, with a fully in-house production cycle. The service is designed for shipyards, yacht designers, outfitting companies and refit specialists requiring custom marine transparencies, even when no original technical documentation is available.
COMPONENTS
Windshields, curved screens, portholes, windows and protective panels for boats
Flat or curved windshields for sports boats, console screens for tenders and motor yachts, side windows and portholes are developed according to the vessel geometry, exposure to the marine environment and the project's aesthetic requirements.
Collaboration with shipyards and designers begins at the design stage to ensure dimensional and stylistic integration with the vessel.
LIRAS Optical supports shipyards, outfitting companies and refit specialists in manufacturing flat, curved or thermoformed components, including technical replacement parts and non-standard components. Development from drawings, samples or reverse engineering based on direct measurement ensures a precise fit to the vessel without requiring complete technical documentation.
CANOPIES & WIND DEFLECTORS
Transparent canopies and wind deflectors for special-purpose vehicles and custom applications
THERMOFORMED TRANSPARENCIES
Curved or complex three-dimensional components formed from flat sheet
CUSTOM-DESIGNED COMPONENTS
Developed from a drawing, sample or technical specification, or through reverse engineering
TECHNOLOGIES
PMMA and polycarbonate for marine environments: durability, clarity and long-term stability
The choice between PMMA/acrylic and polycarbonate depends on several factors. PMMA provides superior optical clarity, a high-quality surface finish and long-term color stability, with certified resistance to yellowing for up to 30 years
Polycarbonate is preferred for complex geometries and applications requiring greater impact resistance.
Both materials offer integrated UV protection and resistance to salt spray. Hard coating improves surface abrasion resistance, while anti-fog treatment maintains visibility in high humidity or during rapid temperature changes.
CNC MACHINING & LASER CUTTING
Precision machining to achieve the final dimensions and geometries required by the project
HARD COATING
Specialist resins applied in a clean room under controlled temperature and humidity
ANTI-FOG TREATMENT
Functional anti-fog coating applied to the inner surface of the component
