CNC milling and 2D/3D laser cutting: dimensional precision on flat and curved components
PROCESS
Precision mechanical machining process
Mechanical machining and laser cutting bring the component to the final dimensions and geometries specified by the project: perimeter trimming, contouring, drilling and the creation of recesses for seals, inserts or opening mechanisms.
TECHNOLOGY
LIRAS technology
The laser cutting, 2D for flat sheets and 3D for curved and thermoformed components, guarantees clean cuts with polished edges, without residual stresses in the material and with maximum geometric flexibility. 3D laser capability is particularly relevant for curved windshields, canopies and components with complex three-dimensional profiles, enabling machining on non-developable surfaces that cannot be processed using conventional milling.
CNC milling completes the machining process, ensuring dimensional repeatability, tight tolerances and a controlled surface finish on polycarbonate, PMMA and engineering plastics.

TECHNOLOGY
LIRAS technology
LIRAS Optical has internally developed its own thermoforming technique, different from traditional processes, which allows for complex shapes to be obtained from flat polycarbonate and PMMA sheets with constant thicknesses throughout the component. The result is a transparent component with preserved optical quality even on curved and complex geometries — an essential requirement for automotive, aeronautical, and nautical applications.
Hot bending is applied for components with simple or moderate curvature, with high repeatability and short cycle times. Both techniques handle polycarbonate, PMMA, and technical plastic materials in various thicknesses and formats.
