Optical-quality thermoformed polycarbonate and PMMA components
Thermoformed transparent polycarbonate and PMMA components are curved or complex three-dimensional parts produced from flat sheet using LIRAS Optical's proprietary in-house thermoforming process.
Consistent thickness is the critical technical requirement: even minimal variations can impair optical quality and introduce visual distortion that is unacceptable in automotive, aerospace and marine applications.
The LIRAS Optical process delivers consistent optical quality even for complex shapes, double-curved geometries and sheets up to 3 x 2 meters.
FEATURES
Available materials and configurations
Thermoformed components are used across a wide range of industries.
- Automotive and motorsport: thermoforming is the core process used to manufacture curved transparent components, delivering weight savings of up to 40% compared with mineral glass, greater impact resistance and the ability to integrate hard coating, anti-fog treatment and screen printing into the same production sequence.
- Aerospace: the process delivers precise geometries suited to the aircraft structure and optical quality that meets pilot visibility requirements.
- Marine: thermoforming enables the production of curved console screens, windshields for performance boats and glazing integrated into the vessel design, including non-standard geometries developed from shipyard drawings or samples.
- Operator cabs for construction machinery, tractors and forestry vehicles: formats up to 3 x 2 meters enable the production of large panoramic panels compliant with ECE R43 and ISO 3449 FOPS Level II requirements.
- Special vehicles: thermoforming delivers precise shapes that integrate with vehicle conversion systems.
Components are available in polycarbonate or PMMA, with curved or double-curved geometries and three-dimensional forms, in different thicknesses, based on a drawing or mold supplied by the customer.
